Reliance Jio Aims to Connect 100 Million Households via JioFiber and Air Fiber Fixed Wireless Access

Reliance Jio is embarking on an ambitious expansion in its broadband business, targeting the connection of at least 100 million households through its JioFiber and Air Fiber fixed wireless access (FWA) offering. Air Fiber, a wireless service providing broadband-like speeds, promises high-speed and reliable service comparable to traditional wired broadband.

In a recent earnings call after reporting Q1 results ending June 30, 2023, Kiran Thomas, President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, revealed the company’s plan to significantly scale up its subscriber base. Currently, Jio’s home broadband business is estimated to have around nine million subscribers. However, the goal is to increase this number by 11 times, reaching the impressive mark of 100 million households, or 10 crore.

Thomas also disclosed that Reliance Jio is upgrading its Wi-Fi offering to Wi-Fi 6, which will improve indoor coverage and enhance performance in homes with multiple connected devices. This upgrade aims to ensure better user experiences and faster connectivity.

Notably, JioFiber, the company’s wired broadband service, has been instrumental in capturing a significant share of new wired broadband subscribers in the country, constituting 80% of the new additions. This success can be attributed to a superior product offering, competitive tariff plans, and attractive benefits.

While the formal launch date for Air Fiber has not been revealed by Thomas, further details are expected to be unveiled during the upcoming annual general meeting of Reliance. With the company’s relentless pursuit of growth and innovation, the expansion of its broadband services is likely to shape the digital landscape in India.
